Dog Boot Camp (or for puppies too!) is a fast track way to have your dog trained with us. For most owners, we understand that you are learning while your dog does. With our professionals, whether with our private lessons or dog boot camp training it speeds up your dog’s learning in just a few weeks.
Is it worth the money?
You have to ask yourself, do you have the time and expertise to train your puppy? Do you really want a dog that is professionally trained? It could be the first time you are trying this, so how would you know if it’s ‘worth it’ if you’ve never done it before…
To break it down, a dog needs approx. 500 repetitions to begin learning one command. This is over-simplifying things, because in fact, dogs are constantly learning and constantly need reinforcing – so no dog EVER ‘knows’ something. It’s not a goal that one achieves, and then it’s done.
Put it like this: we train your dog to come back. We do 25 recalls a day, 20 days and get to 500 repetitions. On top of that, your dog is learning: sit/down/stay/walking on the lead/house manners/house training etc etc.
Your dog will likely come back listening GREAT to all these things, but if you take things for granted, don’t feed your dog, don’t praise him – his behaviour will eventually change. He will know he doesn’t get treats from you, so what’s in it for him? He will occasionally not come back immediately, he will occasionally think other things are more important…
Things like: recall, pulling on the lead, house training and general manners around the house required a lot of repetition. For a young puppy, because they can learn very fast, (they can also learn the wrong things very quickly too!) The problem with most new owners is that they just don’t know what they are doing wrong, even though they think they are doing the right things!
With the technology and YouTube now, it’s very easy to DIY (do it yourself) but are you really doing it correctly?
Unfortunately, no video can tell you how you are doing in real time, and no video can cater for your dogs (as well as your own) unique situation.
